Leadership & Staff

Who we are ?

G60 Trauma exists to optimize the recovery of people aged 60 years or older who have experienced a traumatic injury.

Surgeon leaders are responsible for leading healthcare to directly impact the quality of care to the G60 trauma patient. Surgeon leadership is essential to the G60 trauma program because surgeons:

Pioneer innovative strategies in surgical care

Lead the paradigm shift from a conventional geriatrician consultation trauma care model to a robust interdisciplinary G60 trauma innovation

Directing the team in the operating room, rounding in the ICU and on the medical/surgical units

Aggressive by training and promptly responsive to trauma patient and family needs

Pursue the goal of restoring and optimizing G60 trauma patients’ health and well-being after injury

Develop and test new interventions to improve outcomes for the G60

Provide team leadership for early operative intervention.

Provide unique leadership in translational research: from bench-side to the bedside or operation room. Collaborates with scientists to gain deeper understanding of mechanisms and etiologies of trauma, injury and other conditions. Apply this basic science knowledge to identify risk factors, develop and test preventive and operation management strategies.

Our G60 program is led by
Our Dedicated Trauma Team

G60 is a specialized trauma care program developed by Dr. Alicia Mangram. She has devoted herself to improving trauma care through advocacy, surgical and critical care research, education and community service since 2010. As a new trauma physician, she quickly realized that traumatic injury in patients 60 or older could occur from a simple fall resulting in a hip fracture. The traditional approach of care for these patients was to admit them to a medicine physician and await medical clearance for pre-existing conditions (diabetes, heart disease, etc.) prior to any surgery. While patients waited for medical clearance other complications developed due to prolonged bedrest or lack of initiation of care protocols to reverse the effects of medications that my increase bleeding or reduce the need for pain medicine.

She is a member to multiple prestigious medical societies including; American Association of Surgical Trauma (AAST), Arizona Trauma Association (ATA), Western Trauma Association (WTA), Southwest Surgical Congress (SWSC) and currently sits on the Board of Directors for the American Red Cross, Phoenix. She has published numerous scientific papers in peer-reviewed journals. Dr. Mangram is most recognized world-wide for her landmark work at CDC: Guidelines for the Prevention of Surgical Site Infection (1999), and recently for her work in geriatric trauma (G60).
