Why G60 Trauma

Why G60 Care
G60 provides information to healthcare providers and the trauma community about the benefits of an aggressive team-based trauma care model for patients 60 years and over who have experienced any traumatic injury. Our interdisciplinary SURGEON-LED trauma care model is called “G60 Trauma“.

Aggressive care following an injury has shown to increase the patient’s likelihood that they will be discharged alive and return to their home. Proactive and specialized care helps reduce complications and length of hospitalization.

A specialized geriatric trauma program, such as one developed by Dr. Alicia Mangram and her team, is associated with better outcomes. Her team collaborates with hospitalists, orthopedics, respiratory therapists, case managers, pharmacists, nurses and dietary to ensure care is multidisciplinary and individualized to the needs of each patient.

Life Expectancy
The U.S. Census Bureau reports that the baby boomer generation began turning 65 in 2011 and will comprise 20% of the total US population by 2029. As this population ages, not only will health care needs increase due to chronic disease such as diabetes and heart disease, but the risk of death and disability from traumatic also increases.
