Research & Development

Dr. Dzandu received his Doctor of Philosophy Degree in Biochemistry from Wayne State University, Detroit Michigan in 1980. He was appointed Assistant Professor of Pathology and Associate Director of the DNA/Identity laboratory at University of Texas Health Science center, Fort Worth Texas. Dr. Dzandu is well published in peer-reviewed journals and has received many awards and funding support for his work on sickle cell, proteomics and genomics. In the last few years, Dr. Dzandu has turned his attention to a successful collaborative research partnership with Dr. Mangram and the trauma dream team on trauma research with special emphasis on G60.

As a manager of trauma research at our American College of Surgeon level 1 trauma center, Dr. Dzandu is actively involved in developing research agendas for our surgery residency program, geriatric trauma, general surgery, robotic surgery, quality improvement efforts and critical care issues. He continues to mentor medical students, surgery residents and faculty. Dr. Dzandu believes a scientist should be an active advocate for a cause and his research record is clear on this issue: G60 Trauma. As a scientist, he has a robust working idea about G60 Trauma in which the definition of each adverse G60 trauma outcome is critical. Thus, each G60 trauma outcome prediction becomes a multivariate problem. Our G60 program targets prioritized evidence-based G60 outcomes. The program then develops, implements and evaluates specific innovative strategies for mitigation, recovery and improved quality of life.
